In Memoriam
This page is dedicated to our members we have lost.
Lucy Gilliam Sitton
Lucy was born on April 27, 1918 during the depression and died May 6, 2011.
She attended Georgia State College in Milledgeville, Georgia and her father’s death was the key to her staying in Henderson County and, at her mother’s urging, she began teaching at Fruitland Baptist Institute in Edneyville.
Candy Priest
Our dear sister, Candy, peacefully left us on July 29,2011. Who of us will ever forget that radiant smile and zest for life.
In spite of continuing bouts with serious circulation problems, her spirit never flagged. Just this spring, she was busy on yet another project — planting apple trees. Many of us experienced what the author of her obituary wrote: “She touched many around her with grace throughout her vibrant, full life.”
Louise Howe Bailey
Beloved of the entire community, Louise Bailey - wife, mother, civic leader, newspaper columnist, author, historian, was a beautiful lady with a fine sense of humor and dry wit. A native of Henderson County, she held a BA degree from Winthrop College, Rock Hill, and a B.S in Library Science from Columbia University in New York City.
She has gone beyond the beaten paths to observe ways lingering from pioneer times well into the twentieth century.
